Save money on your eBay purchases by watching for mid-day, weekday closings.
As a Seller on eBay, I try to time my auctions to close at a time when a maximum number of people will be logged-in to eBay. That would be almost any evening after 8:30 PM Pacific Time ... and especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings!
As a Buyer ... I want to be shopping for auctions that close at a time when the fewest people are logged-in.
If the item you desire is unique in some way ... you have to dive into whatever auction is available. But if your item is a common, commercial item, you may be able to choose the auction with the best closing time.
I wanted to buy a Sony CD500 digital camera on eBay. My search shows nine auctions and several store "Buy It Now" offerings. The stores all want at least $200 for their CD500s. The auctions mostly start at about $50 and close with the Winner paying about $125, or so.
I noticed that the auctions closing on the weekends closed at higher prices than did their mid-week competitors. A couple of the mid-week CD500 auctions sold for only about $70. That is a huge savings!
Snipers, by definition, can often suddenly jack up the sell price of an item during the last seconds of an auction. To be a sniper, you have to be logged-in and watching the auction as it closes. (See my BE A SNIPER Guide.) That's easier to do on evenings and weekends ... but tough to do during the average person's work day. So ... With fewer people watching ... and fewer snipers ... a mid-day auction will probably close at a lower sell price ... and you can save big money! And ... if you want to BE a sniper and can be there to take charge when that mid-week auction closes ... you will win more auctions while still saving some money.
There are a lot of ways to save money and have fun on eBay ... I enjoy the hunt!
