WHY BUY POLISH POTTERY OF BOLESLAWIEC, POLAND?

 BOLESLAWIEC POLISH POTTERY INTRODUCTION:

For hundreds of years, gorgeous stoneware Polish pottery has been made in the Lower Silesia region.  Originally, Bunzlau, Germany was the site of artisans creating pottery from the local white clay which they decorated with a special hand-stamping technique.

Today, this area is Boleslawiec, Poland.  It is still the site of handmade, durable Polish stoneware crafted from locally sourced materials.  This time-tested stoneware is lead free and cadmium free.  Boleslawiec Polish Pottery is safe for use in your oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer.

POLISH POTTERY PRODUCTION:

Polish pottery is produced today much as it was centuries ago.  It is still produced from the strong white clay of the Silesia region creating strong durable stoneware that is meant for functional everyday use.  Polish pottery is also beautiful enough to serve as a work of art in your home adding warmth and style.

Each piece of Polish pottery stoneware is molded in molds created by each factory. These molds are used for a predetermined number of times and then replaced with a new, fresh mold. This process ensures clean, crisp forms that are uniform in shape and size; perfect for creating dinnerware sets.  They are then fired in a kiln at more than 2450 degrees Fahrenheit. These high firing temperatures produce stoneware that is highly durable and able to withstand the heat of your oven.

Artisans create the lovely designs on these forms using either a hand-stamped pattern or hand-painted pattern.  In some cases the pattern can incorporate both techniques.  For centuries, Polish pottery designs have been influenced by nature.  Patterns that are rich in cobalt blues, dark greens, and rich deep reds mimic nature through peacock feather designs, flowers, animals, and scenes.

Finally, an ultra smooth, hard glaze finish is applied to the stoneware.  This glaze protects the artists’ pattern from wearing over years of use.  It also creates a surface that is extremely easy to clean.  Even when used for oven baking, Polish pottery cleans up easily and quickly with very little food sticking to the surface.

POLISH POTTERY PATTERNS:

Polish pottery stoneware is divided into at least 3 categories; traditional, UNIKAT and Signature.

Traditional handmade Polish patterns are simple but elegant and are typically hand stamped.  They are created by artists working under the direction of a Master Artisan at the factory.  The stoneware pattern shown here is a popular traditional pattern with the peacock influence in cobalt blue and green.

UNIKAT patterns are more intricate and unique, UNIKAT in Polish.  Unikat patterns are usually highly decorated and incorporate more colors with a more sophisticated design.  These UNIKAT pieces are not produced in the large numbers that traditional Polish pottery patterns are so they are a little harder to find and have a higher price.

Signature Polish pottery stoneware is handmade and designed specifically by the Master Artisans.  Each Master Artist places his or her design individually on each stoneware piece they produce. They sign each piece, as long as it is large enough to get a signature on it.  Since these Polish Pottery stoneware pieces are individually produced by the Masters, they are made in limited quantities.  Signature patterns are highly sought after and carry a higher price than the other two Polish Pottery categories.

BUT CAN I USE MY POLISH STONEWARE?

ABSOLUTELY!  Polish pottery stoneware is designed to be used every day!  From the high quality white clay to the hard finish glaze, every step of this stoneware process produces high-quality Polish pottery that is perfectly suited for use on your table and in your oven. Since it is completely diswasher safe, cleanup is a snap! Polish pottery is made to be used so don't hesitate to enjoy it every day.

This quality stoneware makes gorgeous dinnerware.  Each handmade piece of dinnerware can be matched for a traditional look or the patterns can be mixed and matched for a gorgeous setting.  Polish art will be as beautiful for years to come as it is on the day you purchased it.
