If you live in an area that has occasional power outages, then you are a good candidate for a whole house generator.  A whole house generator will provide reliable power to your home during a power outage.  You will feel safe and secure knowing that if your powerlines are down for a week or two that you will have uninterruputed power.   Hurricanes, tornados and winter ice storms are the most common causes of extended power outages.  The same storms that take the power out also make it difficult for the power company to quickly restore power.

If you are buying one of these whole house generators you will need one that is at least 10,000 watts to carry the loads for most 2000 square foot homes.  You will have to manage your power during the time the whole house generator is on.  The power is not unlimited.  That's means you can't turn everything on at once!
