I have really tried to lead by example but it seems we have a whole bunch of sellers that may not be getting the message. It is up to the buyers out there to educate themselves as to what it takes to make a WIDGET. There are several really dishonest IMHOand FWIIW Problems that happen every day on eBay in the area of the COX motors. Maybe it is because I work on so many of these motors everyday that I get so angry about what is being done too the buyers. There are so many sellers that try to make a dishonest buck that I really get angry. Even if you send a nice email to one of these people pointing out the error in their AD or what they say something is. Many of those people will get so MAD at you that you should get a restraining order just in case. Let me cover a few of the items that have happened on here.
Let us start with the term ARF. This means ALMOST READY to FLY. Sure any model is almost ready to fly. and even the RTF one's which mean READY TO FLY take a little assembly. The thing is an ARF you should be able to put together is just a couple of hours. The main componets have already been assembled the wings are covered the fuselage is covered or painted The tail is covered and the stabilizer is also covered. Those items still have to be glued to each other or in the case of wings many times the wings are glued one side to the other and then it uses Rubber Bands to hold the wing on the plane. The lady I asked to tell the people bidding on her item called me bad names for even asking her to tell those people that they were buying a box of sticks. What she would not understand was just a week before that I had bought an ARF that was a box of sticks. That is even after asking the guy which it was an being promised that it was an ARF. Then I find out he didn't even know what that meant and was selling it for a friend By the time that was over I wasted a hundred dollars in shipping and time, trouble, and Heart Ache.
Now let us check the Sizes of COX models The name makes very little difference in the size of the motor. a baby bee is not the littlest nor is the PEEWEE. I know the 020 looks awfully small compared to anything but when you finally see a 010 next to it then you will know what small is.The term Thimble Drone is put on almost anything that has COX on it as well. One of the guides on here also gives very exact measurements.
Names What is in a name or a ROSE is A ROSE by any other name. NOT! There are several items that must be present for you to call a BLACK WIDOW by that name. Starting at the front of the motor is the little RED Anodized HARD aluminum spinner that goes in front of even the propeller. Then we have the Crankcase and the FUEL TANK both of them must be black The Crankcase is anodized black. The Tank is either Anodized black or is black plastic and is polypropylene. The back plate came in both Cad plated Metal and Black Plastic again polypropylene not delrin COX just loved POLY he made any and everything out of it if he could and so did everyone who came later. It was cheaper and worked better than the other things available. Then there is the GOLDEN BEE it had a gold crankcase and a gold fuel tank. Both of these were anodized gold. Neither of these motors had a aluminum color tank or crankcase. The main historian for COX had a word for anyone who claimed that they did or could have or might have or should have or they knew someone who had one or they bought one in a store or hobby shop one time but they lost it or sold it or gave it away or it was stolen or a GREAT BIG BOLT OF LIGHTNING CAME OUT OF THE SKY AND STRUCK THE MOTOR IN THE BOX. Changing the color of the tank or crankcase to normally clear aluminum color but sometimes HOT PINK
as well. That was the same bolt of lightning that hit Ben Franklin's KITE Which was believe it or not was also made by COX out of Plastic and colored Yellow and Blue.

This Guide is not aimed at any one person. I for one would like to see more sellers put in their auction That they will STAND BEHIND THEIR MOTOR 100% I buy many of the same motors that everyone else does. Of the last 300 motors I have purchased on eBay 95% of them would not run when I got them. Why you ask? DIRT! The real gotcha on these motors is xxxxx My Motor has compression.xxxxx99% of the time what they feel when they turn the prop over with their finger is the varnish and gummed up piston to cylinder fit. You can actually smell the difference in a good motor and a bad motor. Put the motor right under your nose take a deep sniff. It will most times smell like rancid paint Why because when they get through with running the motor they just stick it in a bag and forget it. within a month the fuel has turned rancid most of the time the fuel you burn in one of these glow fueled motors is 15%Nitromethane 20% Castor Bean OIL or a Synthetic Oil. and 65% Alcohol Nitromethane and crushed Beetle shells which is what shellac is are very close to the same thing when you add the Alcohol. That is the same thing the use to paint a nice clear coat of varnish on your violin.
Please when you are thru with flying or running your motor for the day.Run the motor till it runs out of fuel. It would be nice to rinse it down with Denatured Alcohol put a little on a cotton cloth and wipe it down. Put five or six drops of Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinder and gently move the prop around back and forth xxxxx DO NOT FORCE IT xxxxxx you can bend and break things inside that motor very easily. Tip the motor on its side so that any excess drains out the exhaust ports. wipe it down even more with a clean cotton cloth.
Thanks Dray
