Many on EBAY list things as Vintage , Rare , or 1 of a kind. I just wanted to share some observations and insight.
Currently on ebay are a set of halloween cookie cutters. Listed as vintage they were sold at home goods in 2006. They originally sold for 5.99. One question every bidder should ask themselves is why are all of these VINTAGE items unused, perfect condition and MINT? Didnt anyone use these? REMEMBER, folks in the 40s,50s and 60s didnt know about the current collector boom. THEY USED THINGS !!!!
When a seller uses the word RARE...What does it mean? Usually it means they want to justify a higher starting bid based on NOTHING. Just because you didnt see it listed on Ebay when your auction started doesn't mean it's rare.
Any true collector also knows that the word ANTIQUE can only be used when an item is 100 years or older.
We all want to beleive that some item that has been in our family forever is valuable. Sentiment is free....No one needs to pay for others sentimentality. Many times a seller will attach their own feelings to an item. Ebay affords everyone the opportunity to see what the market bears.
Sellers...Do the research....be accurate....and BUYER BEWARE....Remember...A GOOD CONSUMER IS AN EDUCATED CONSUMER.
