DAISY:  As children we played "loves me, loves me not" petals of a daisy.  A daisy conveys the still bright hopes of a youthful heart.

LILAC:  Delicate lavender color.  Was thought to speak of melancholy, and a gift of lilac often meant the ending of an engagement.

ROSE:  Roman legend claims the rose first became red when Venus pricked her fingers on thorny stems and crimson drops of blood fell on the pure white blooms.  Having received its color from the Goddess of Love, it is understantable that the rose has historically spoken of true devotion and fidelity.

VIOLET:  The fragile violet also traces its meaning to ancient mythology.  It is said that Cupid was called upon to settle a dispute between Venus and a group of beautiful maindens.  In this mythical beauty contest, Cupid declared the maidens more lovely. Seiged with a jealous rage, Venus beat the unfortunate girls until they were magically transformed into the first violets.  Because of this, the violet is linked with the image of modesty and humility, a small purple reminder of loveliness.

DANDELION:  The dandelion became a courier of love when its fluffy seeds are blown to carry thoughts to your beloved.

GARDENIA:  Is there a secret untold love you'd like to reveal?  The heady sweet perfume of the waxy gardenia will relay your message.

APPLE BLOSSOMS: Do you experience great temptation from the object of your affection?  A branch of apple blossoms will convey your plight.

FORGET-ME-NOTS:  A symbol of enduring love.  The legned is that as a pair of young lovers strolled beside the Danube the maid spied a cluster of lovely blossoms on the opposite bank.  To please her, the young man plunged into the river, swam across and retrieved the blooms.  On his return, a huge wave bore him away.  As he was swept out to sea, he threw the bouquet to his beloved, called, "forget me not" With such romantic beginnings, it is understandable that this delicate blue flower has come to signify love and remembrance in the language of flowers.

We hope you have enjoyed these myths and legends about flowers.
