Ways To Start A Barbie Doll Collection

Anyone that collects Barbie Dolls has tons of choices. There are way too many for one person to collect them all. Well...maybe if you have lots of money and plenty of room to store and display them.

There have been literally thousands of Barbies issued in the past 30 years. Pink box, Hollywood, Fashion, Holiday, Celebrity just to name a very few. Here are a few suggestions to help you start a wonderful Barbie Collection.

Pink Box or Collectible? What's the difference? Well, The pink box Barbie dolls are issued for play. These are the ones you buy for a special little girl to give her special memories of playing with her Barbies. In addition, the pink box Barbies are a little less expensive. This can be a good choice for the beginner or the child just starting a collection.

The Collectible Barbies are exactly that...Collectible. They are issued especially for the collectible market. Most collectors of the Collectible Barbies prefer them NRFB (Never Removed From Box).

Popular themes is another way to collect your Barbies. There are so many themes out there that it should be easy for a beginning collector to choice. Then again, there are so many that you may have a hard time narrowing it down. Your theme should be something that makes you smile when you look at her. Choose a theme that brings you joy. It will make your collecting even more fun.

Here are some of the different themes you can consider...

Celebrity Barbie (Barbie as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde; Barbie as I Love Lucy)

Holiday Barbie

Movies (Gone With The Wind, James Bond, My Fair Lady)

Hollywood Movie Star Collection

Vintage Reproductions

Historical (dolls such as The Great Eras Barbies)

Bob Mackie Dolls

Fantasy

Themed Collection Barbies come in both Pink Box and Collectible Barbies. For example, if you were focusing on Movie Themed Barbies, you could also collect Pink Box dolls such as 101 Dalmatians Barbie.

NRFB or Deboxed? As mentioned above, NRFB means Never Removed From Box. Most collectors who collect Barbie would much rather collect NRFB Barbies. But, is a box really necessary. If you plan on deboxing your Barbie anyway, why pay extra for the box? Many bargains can be found with Barbies that have been removed from the box. Just check out ebay.

By purchasing a deboxed Barbie, you can purchase some of the most expensive Barbies for around ½ the price you would pay for a NRFB Barbie. However, you have to remember that the deboxed Barbies may not be in mint condition as the NRFB usually are. Its really your preferrance.

Theses are only a few suggestions that bearly touch the surface of the possibilities for Barbie doll collecting. Barbie collecting can be a fun, memorable experience for you or a little girl.
