Hello fellow collectors/hobbyists!
There is a disturbing trend in the autograph categories on ebay. Many sellers are listing "preprinted" autographed photos in the "authentic" autograph categories. While a preprint can still be a nice collectible/display piece, they are NOT actually hand signed by the subject! To help avoid the confusion, ebay created categories (in the Entertainment & Sports Collectibles areas) to separate the authentic autographs from the preprints. Yet many sellers are still listing preprints in the authentic categories. I don't believe most of them are trying to trick you, I think they are just trying to offer the collector a cheaper alternative to authentic autographs, and since the preprint category doesn't get nearly as much traffic. None-the-less, they should be listed in the preprinted categories where they belong. Also, not all sellers make it as clear as they should that the item is preprinted. Some bury that fact in the item description somewhere. So, if you see an "autographed" item listed significantly cheaper than the rest, almost a "too good to be true" type item, read the item description closely, and if need be ask questions to be sure!
Bottomline, as with any ebay purchase, be sure to read the fine print before you commit to buy!!
I hope this was of some help (if so please click "YES" below) and thanks for your time!
