There are millions of reviews & guides on ebay.  Many are poorly written, some are SPAM, and many are misplaced when an individual mistakenly leaves feedback for the seller using the "review this item" link.  Currently eBay has in-place ways to report SPAM and "illegal" reviews of items.  However, there is not a way to report misplaced feedback.  For example a seller may deserve a 1 but when left on the review page it brings the rating of that movie, CD, book, etc... down, when the item may be a legitimate 5-star item.

This is why it is important to take the split-second to click [YES] and vote for well written reviews & guides and to vote [NO] when there is a review that isn't even a review. 

Anyone can sort reviews.  One option is sort by HELPFULNESS.  Choose "most helpful first".  This will help weed out the junk, putting the highest rated views on top.  Another option is to sort by TIME.  Choose "Newest First".  This way you will not miss a potentially good review that nobody has voted on yet & it may be the one that helps you.  I recommend you do both when shopping for an item you may not be familiar with. 

Short-cut hint: If you find a seller that you like and they have a "Top #'d reviewer" icon by their name you can click on that icon & it will take you to all of their reviews & guides they have written.

The biggest tip to writting a good review is to be HONEST.  Guides should be instructive. 

When you write a review tell people why you rated it the way you did.  Tell them about the pros & cons or likes & dislikes of an item.  Few items are perfect.  Say more than "this CD rocks!" 

When I review a Blu-ray DVD I'll spend little written space on the movie itself, unless it is a new release, and most of the review on if the movie's transfer quality to Blu-ray is worth the extra expense over the price of a regular DVD.  For more examples: kormscomix reviews & guides

If you find that some has written a review or guide that was helpful to you, help others find it by voting [YES].  If you really like their style each review has a built in link that says "see all reviews by ..." click that and see what else they have reviewed.  You may learn something unexpected!
