Cleaning your records
The indispensable tool for record cleaning
is the so-called carbon fibre brush. The carbon-fibre brush will help
to remove the finest dust particles from the records. I brush can be
bought somewhere between $10-15 either on Ebay or at your local
electronics or record store.
Getting starting
Inspect the inside of the inner sleeve and blow
a couple of times inside the inner sleeve to remove any dust. If the
inner sleeve is in very bad shape replace it with a new one.
Inspect both sides of the record for larger dust or small particles
and remove these carefully. Sticky particles can be easier removed
using Eye-glass cleaner/wipes and gently wiping over the spot.
Use
the carbon-fiber brush and brush the disque following the direction of
the grooves. You will see the dust coming out of the grooves and they
can be gentle wiped of the disc.Depending on how dirty the disc is, the
brushing of the disc may take several minutes. Dont rush
To keep the record in top condition, repeat the brushing before and after playing the record.
Storing records
To protect the album cover for wear, use
polyester outer-sleeves. They will protect your records for years and
are worth the investment. Buy high quality inner sleeves, best is to
use a Nagaoka 102 anti-static sleeve and store this inside a paper
sleeve. If the album has a custom inner sleeve, keep it with the album,
it's part of the collection.
Albums and records must always be stored in upright position. Avoid that albums are too tight together (avoid 'sticking')
And most importantly regularly play and enjoy the music
