When buying vintage sportscards on Ebay or anywhere else please remember first and foremost to buy what YOU like. There are thousands of so called good deals on sportscards posted on Ebay everyday. Some of the important things to keep in mind are budget, condition, and shipping.
Most consumers will try and expand their collection based on a set budget. If condition, value , or shipping costs pose no problem then you can find most vintage sportscards that you are looking for on Ebay reasonably enough. One of the more important factors to consider in trying to make the most of your buget is value. Most of the individuals and dealers selling on Ebay will state "card books $xx". Overlook this and throw the book out the window. Anything especially vintage cards are valued at what someone is willing to give. I purchased a ballcard that books at $500.00 for only $62.00. The card isn't worth $500.00, only what I was willing to pay for it. So, budget yourself based on what you are willing to pay, not what someone says it is worth.
Condition is another important factor to keep in mind. If you are really picky with your vintage then be prepared to open up your wallet wide. If condition is not of the upmost importance then go ahead because there are some great low grade buys daily on Ebay.
Lastly shipping is important because some not most will charge way too much extra for shipping. If you pay $16.00 for a card, you are not going to like paying almost half of that in shipping. So you may say that you only have $16.00 in a card, but including shipping you really have $24.00. If you are planning on buying to resale keep an eye on shipping costs. We all get caught in the thrill of the find and will commit to buying an item before doing all of our research.
Most importantly, forget everything I have written. Collecting is fun and should be fun for both buyer and seller alike. Make up your own mind, research your options and enjoy the hunt!
