I've been collecting vintage tablecloth for many years and have probably owned over 1,200 of them. Many times I've had to use different resources in order to figure out who exactly made my particular pattern. In this guide I'm going to provide several different websites and books which have come in handy. These sources also usually provide ways in which to clean these tablecloths.
How I do it!
~Be Very Careful~
All Tablecloth makers used different types of pigments or dyes!
Do a test on a small area before putting the entire pc to tthe test!
Reds usually bleed so never wash with anything else! (not worth ruining two pcs)
Use a high Oxygen leveled cleaner (Tied or Oxyclean)
Never put anything in the dryer (hang dry)
(Putting something in the dryer will set the stain)
Bleach can either hurt or help your item (very risky)
I try to never use bleach as it will weaken the cloth and further along any wearing spots.
Not to mention the color will be slightly faded.
I've read many cleaning terms- many folks will suggest using direct sunlight for stains (not me)
I don't much care for this suggestion as it hasn't worked well (fades the pc if exposed too long).
I always use a pinch or tablespoon of salt in room tempature water.
I'll rub in a little oxyclean and then put some tide on top of any stains.
I'll put a pc of tape on any holes or wearing thin spots (to help protect it)
Usually use the sink or bathtub
An old toothbrush always helps those hard or uneasy places
One lid full of cleaner per item will make sure it gets a good amount of cleanser.
Rinse well (cool water)
HANG DRY ON A FLAT SURFACE
I use an old screen window on top of a bucket (no stetching occurs)
