Tinted pillow tops and other linens were very popular during the 1900's-1950's.  The items were purchased as tinted pieces or in kits with floss and instructions and were then embroidered by the purchaser.   Wanting to date some of the tinted/embroidered linens in my collection, I spent some time the other day going thru embroidery catalogs.  This list is by no means complete and any additions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

As collectors we are familiar with the very popular Vogart name; but there were other companies selling tinted linens before the Vogart name appeared.    Vogart, also,  produced the same items under different names for a number of retailers. 

Vogue Needlework, selling Vogue Art Needlecrafts can be dated to around 1930. The earliest Vogart catalog in my collection is dated 1935 and the latest is 1957. BKC on items denotes art needlework by the B. Kugel Company; this company acquired Vogue Needlework in 1941 and items were sold under both Vogart and Vogue Needlecraft.  Vogart/Vogue Needlecraft designed for Kresge's (JBK markings); Woolworth's (Jerglo); Kress & Co., Montgomery Ward's and G.C. Murphy Co.

Some of the earlier companies designing/selling Art Needlework were Royal Society (H. E. Vernon Co.), Pacific, Bucilla (Benhard Ulman Co.), Brainerd Silk, Richardson's Silk, TBC (T. Buellner & Co.), Frederick Herrschner Co., Gomory, Artamo, Woman's World, and Le Merite. 

Other companies you may see associated with tinted art needlework items are: Wonder Art (Newberry's and Fixler Bros.), Virginia Snow Studio, Harriet Harper Studio, Blackstone Studio, Semco and Emma Louise Art Studio.
