The World of Textile Bobbins & Spools.
The mid 1900's, with its relentless technical advances, was a sad time for the wooden bobbins. With the introduction of open ended spinning and plastic bobbins, traditional spinning and wooden bobbins quickly became a thing of the past.
In the 1950's wooden bobbins became very common to be of value. So many of the whole mill stocks and mills were destroyed. Because of there high oil content. which created hazardous conditions in the mills, that sometime caused fires to burn out of control. So millions of wooden bobbins were thrown away or burned in landfills.
Thank goodness for us avid Bobbin Collectors, the textile bobbins and spools have began a comeback. And many of the bobbins are becomming valuable as they become increasingly RARE.
