This guide to help buyers aquire authentic Mexican Silver pieces by the famous Silversmiths of Taxco from the 30's thru the 50's.
I look every day for pieces made the famous 1930's and 40's Mexican silversmiths such as Hector Aguilar , William Spratling, Fred Davis, Los Castillo, Margo de Taxco. There are many fine quality pieces on Ebay and sometimes, there are some bargains to be found. What I have noticed and I believe that the inexperienced buyer needs to be aware of, is that there is alot of sellers say that their item is attributed to a certain artist but there is not that artists mark on the item. They may mention the bell mark but there were a lot if unknown silversmiths that may have worked under the same bell mark. There have even been sellers that have taken a picture of the makers mark and attributed that mark to the wrong artist. My suggestion is know the makers mark of the piece that you are seeking. These marks can be found on the internet very easily. If you are wanting to buy a piece, say from Hector Aguilar, know his mark and if it is not shown clearly on the auction page, don't bid unless you can get the seller to email a clear mark that you can identify.
