This guide is designed to help beginners to the old school/vintage BMX hobby. BMX has been around for quit some time now.Since at least the early 1970's.During that time many kids have had bicycles and now are adults that long for items that remind them of their youth. There are a few prominent websites that have very knowledgeable collectors that can help identify bikes and answer various related questions.People might be very surprised to learn how valuable these old bikes have become and how large of a following they have. For example HUTCH AEROSPEED cranks usually sell for over $2K in used condition!
Here are a few related terms and abbreviations that a person should become familiar with. NOS=New Old Stock (means new and never used) MIP=Mint in package. repop=reproduction Here is a list of some of the more popular bicycles as well (only a partial list). JMC,Hutch,VDC,Champion,Nomura,Mongoose,Race Inc.,SE Racing,Patterson,CW,Bandito,Mongoose,REDLINE,Blue Max,Schwinn,Torker,Powerlite,GT,MCS,Thruster,Robinson,RRS,FMF,Cook Bros.,National Pro,SKYWAY,DG,CYC,Webco,R&R,GJS and Panda.
As stated the list is far from complete but is a decent starting point. Most collectors agree that to be considered old school a bike should have been built somewhere in the mid 1980's or before. The exact time is debatable but 1985 or so seems to be about right.About that time FREESTYLE started becoming popular and many companies moved production overseas.
For more information you might want to search the internet for the following sites.

Again there are many more related sites but the ones mentioned should be a great starting point! Also feel free to contact me with any questions you may have concerning this topic?
