Unfortuately for me, I was the victim of this scam. Please read this so you won't be. This person seems to "deal" in vintage Ludwig gold badge sets from the 1960's.
It was originated out of the UK. It was a hacked account. This person is good. I was given a very real looking, what I thought was an official, eBay Transaction form that stated it came from the eBay SafeHarbor team and SquareTrade center. Complete with links to Western Union and all the official eBay logo's and wording.
All the emails that went back and forth to confirm the deal with this person said "eBay Member", "aw-confirm@ebay.com", "Thank you for contacting eBay's Customer Support team! Per your request, we have verified all the details of this transaction. We concluded that they are accurate. Please follow our instructions to complete the transaction safely", and so forth. I can forward you the document if you wish, so you can see all the details for yourself. It will also show the address they used. I can even give you the images.
Due diligence is the key here. AFTER I finaized the deal is when the lights really went off. No further email contact. THEN I sent all the information through the eBay site to have eBay confirm, and found out it was a "Spoof". I put the name used in the "Find eBay Member" section and found out the person's named was only in the United States, not the UK.
There truely are ways to check every detail, if you see the stop signs going up, and don't run them in haste to finalize the deal.
Everything was reported to eBay, gmail and Scotland Yard. Nothing may ever come of it. But report it anyway.
The amount lost isn't the point here. Believing what you think is real to conclude an honest transaction, and not heeding the warning signs along the way, is the point.
Thank you.
