There are many types and brands of scooters on the market today. Prices and performance are as varied as the scooters themselves. I made the decision to purchase a Vespa LX150 for practical and aesthetic reasons. Vespa has been around for over 50 years and they have a solid reputation for the manufacture and support of their products. I wanted a scooter that I knew I could find parts, service and a community of owners.
I also wanted the Vespa because of its looks. Vespa has a long commitment to producing classically stylish machines and the LX150 is no exception. It turns heads and is a source of continual conversation at every stop.
Now to the important stuff---riding. Vespa is traditionally viewed as a form of urban transportation. Throughout the world it functions as a daily workhorse for individuals and businesses. I ride in a rural part of central Pennsylvania and I can attest to its ability to travel almost anywhere throughout the year. The Vespa LX150 will run all day long at 55 MPH and will move my 190 pound body up mountain roads at 45 MPH. this makes it a perfect match for touring throughout the scenic areas. I often ride 100 miles or more on a weekend morning. And don't let the small tires fool you into thinking it is unstable. The Vespa is nimble on the highway and handles twisting roads with ease. The front disc brake has plenty of stopping power for the scooter and the engine seems to run smoothly at all times of the year.
I consider myself a rider first. I don't spend my time rubbing the Vespa with a diaper to keep it shiny. I ride it constantly regardless of weather. I ride in snow and ice, rain, night, and cold. The Vespa is a trooper.
