This is a guide for: "How not to throw away $200+"

Today I will be discussing velocity stacks. Why? My other review

Seems to have struck a chord with a retailer or two because I said velocity stacks were not a recommended mod for a person doing basic mods. I have actually had merchants message me and tell me what an idiot I am for saying such a thing and how incorrect I am... One even gave my review a bad rating because of it. Well, allow me to return the favour.

Here where I live, there is a Power Commander tuner shop. You take your bike in and have it dynoed and they map out your new fuel ratio. There are many MANY different bikes in and out of the shop everyday with hundreds of different mods. The owner of the shop happens to be a pal of mine, so, I asked for a favor. Every time someone came to the shop and wanted to get a map done with a set of velocity stacks, give me a call and let me see what kind of gains they get. The results??? Going to suprise you....

First of all, I have 6 different bikes on file, each having velocity stacks put on them. Why only six? It took over a month to gather this many! Out of hundreds of bikes, only 6 had this mod... Not a very popular mod I guess. Wanna know why? OUT OF ALL 6 OF THEESE, ONLY 3 SAW ANY KIND OF POWER GAIN... THAT'S 50%.... Odd? It gets better, One bike actually saw power LOSS. The dyno before the stacks, and the dyno afterward showed a 6 HP loss. And the other 2 bikes showed nothing: No gain, no loss.

So, now let's talk about the 3 bikes that had power gains. Each velocity stack vender I have seen/heard/talked to say you can get up to 5 extra HP with velocity stacks for only 200+ dollars.(some claim up to 10hp, but they disgust me to a point where I don't even want to talk about them...)

So, 3 bikes with power gains.... And what were theese great power gains? One showed 1HP power gain, another showed 2HP, and the third? 1HP gain. That's right. 3 out of 6 bikes showed any power gain, and NONE of them got over 2 HP from the 200+ dollar mod. Now, on a bike like mine (06 suzuki GSXr 1000) this type of HP gain would be unnoticeable. So? Again, I say that theese are worthless to the basic modder. If you are cutting huge amounts of body weight from the bike and putting in after market cams and boring out the cylinders, and getting bigger pistons, and doing this and that and the other, then theese may be for you. If you do a WHOLE lot to your bike, I do think that theese will help you out a lot. For me and a lot of others though, they are junk.

Oh, by the way.... Instead of forking out 200 or more for a set of stacks, you may want to look around on the internet nd find the plans that show you how to make them for around 13 bucks... And yes, they will be just as good as aftermarket big priced ones.

My advice? Save your money. Do one or more of the mods in my other review. If you want huge power gains, save the cash and drop 2-4 grand on a turbo and get some REAL power gains.
