Tib: chag na dor je, The Vajra Holder
Vajrapani is considered to be the embodiement of Lord Buddha's compassion. He is believed to be the protector of Nagas. He sometimes assumes the shape of a bird, the hawklike Garuda. Vajrapani assumes ferocious form to combat demons and to guard mystical teachings of Buddhism. In Sutra tradition of Mahayana Buddhism, Bodhisattva Vajrapani is regarded as one of the Eight-Heart-Sons of Shakyamuni Buddha and portrayed in peaceful appearence. In Vajrayana, Vajrapanin is rather seen in wrathful forn and is further know as Guhyapati-Lord of Secrets. Historically, Vajrapani is the main reciepient, holder and protector of Tantra texts and teachings from Shakyamuni Buddha(In Vajradhara form). Some sources also say that Vajrapani is the wrathful form of Avalokiteshvara.
He is dark blue/white in colr with his hair having yellow ochre. He wears tiger skin around his waist and is seen holding a thunderbolt or Vajra with his right hand and left hand displaying threatening Vitraka mudra. He controls two live snakes under his feet. He wears all sorts of Bodhisattva ornaments and a garland of snake. He is said to be the companion Bodhisattva of Shakyamuni Buddha.
