When you come across old tube radios it is best to be as detailed as possible in your listing description. A little extra effort goes a long way and will increase your success in generating more money for your item. The biggest mistake sellers make is not including enough photos. The photos are so important to a collector to see what they will be getting. The first thing you need to do is just a good general cleaning. It only takes a little time to clean the cabinet and the insides without much effort and it will make the radio more appealing to buyers. When you inspect the radio make sure there are no loose wires or don't plug it in. If the cord is dry rotted or you can see exposed wire replace it its an easy fix with some wire cutters and electrical tape. If you can test it you can include in your description the results and just be honest. If it doesn't work thats not important because your buyer more than likely will be able to fix it up. It is a good practice to sell these non working radio's as fixxer uppers becuase there is a large market of buyers who collect or repair and resell them. If the radio is working so much the better.
Your description should include any information on or inside the radio. Most radios are easy to open and it is helpful to include a picture or two of the inside components and note of any missing tubes, etc. It is very important to note the make such as Zenith, Motorola, RCA, etc... It is also important to list the model number if it is marked. The next step would be to do a little research. The internet is full of info on these old boatanchors and can give you a lot of useful info to include in your listings. It could also educate you and you will learn more to detail your listing with descriptions of parts, and bakelite, catalin, plaskon and different types of cabinets and knobs used, as well as dating your radio. Be sure to include a tube compliment (the list of tubes used for this model).
Another big tip in success in listing old vintage tube radios is to try and have like listings on at the same time. If you can draw collectors into your auctions it will create more of an auction flurry and help you achieve greater success in selling for more $$$ on eBay.
Good luck at the auctions DeeMarAuctions!
