What is REALLY AWFUL, is ebay sellers CHEAPENING the market- because they start their prices VERY low on valuable hats!!!  1920's HATS are worth HUNDREDS in a REAL store.. And YOU sell these FINE pieces of ART for NOTHING!! TERRIBLE!!  The GREAT hat sellers are taking a BEATING for FINE pieces of ART, because many sellers that sell hats- start LOW, and get not even CLOSE to what the hat is worth, this is a SHAME!!! These ebay sellers are working HARD, NOT SMART, people will pay UP TO $100.00 for a HAT that they REALLY want!!!!.  Another thing that is RIDICULOUS is sellers that buy LOTS of hats OFF OF EBAY, and RE SELL them, they have ZERO imagination-  

  ~You can make a LOT more money than you think, HATS, are DESIRABLE in G.B., Especially hats from the 1940's!! I get really upset with sellers on ebay, that suggest that EVERY single vintage hat, is a tilt topper, from the 1940's.  Hats from the 1940's are very distinct. I would suggest that people that want to purchase a hat/topper, from the 1940's, OR ANY OTHER Decade-- would take a look at these e-bay sellers:  marymuldoon, new-york-cameo-girl, and as well as grandmascloset, &  fantasyofjewels When the >>"thegildedgriffin"<< is auctioning: GET HER HATS!!! ASAP!!! THE TOPS, the BEST, shipped in MUSEUM PAPER, and MUSEUM plastic, and many times with lavender oo la la!! You can find these sellers by clicking on "Community" & typing in, or copying these names. BUY THESE HATS, it is WORTH IT!! FABULOUS Vintage HATS! The ABSOLUTE BEST.

1930's HATS- VERY CLOSE to the head- almost like a flapper cloche, but they got smaller, and did not cover the whole head, less restriction to the ears, Asymetrical and adorable, they also made fedoras that were SO CUTE. The mysterious eye look, classy and vampy. I have a 30's cloche pictured here in comparison to a 20's, you can see the difference. :)

1960's HATS are shaped like pillboxes, and often pretty ugly., zero style, just plain and simple- UNLESS you spoof it up with Jackie-O Sunglasses. Then you have the "TWIGGY" hat- it looks like a round bucket- looked GREAT on twiggy, will probably look terrible on YOU, unless you are a size ZERO. then, by ALL means- if you are tall and thin, this hat will look GREAT on you.

1970's HATS- Very Floppy medium to large brim and also smaller brims, there was also a fad that was like the GREAT GATSBY- So, horsehair and nylon style wide brim cloches were REALLY popular, many colorful- they look pretty well, on just about anyone- then there are the HUGE LONG pheasant feathers, on black, and beige hats- really cool and classy with LARGE sunglsses!!

1980's HATS Big designers made their mark completely.. SONNI of CA she was an EXCELLENT Milliner!! Many very WIDE brims with fabulous netting, she also added huge chiffon on the back of the hats, for a long haired female to put it a ponytail- very SMART- a Sonni hat is VERY CLASSY, and exudes an air of ART DECO and also the 'NOIR' , Jack McConnell made the MOST escellent of his hay day in the 1980's- if you have a 1980's Jack it usually had a BLUE JACK MCCONNELL name on his tag- he was at his LEVEL BEST during the 1980's, and these Jacks will be the MOST collectible, MORE than ANY Jack there is- so get PREPARED to BID a LOT- HUGE WIDE BRIMS, feathers and GORGEOUS Silk flowers that do not have that FAKE look. Whithall and Shon-  WOW- THE BEST LEVEL BEST cocktail hats of the CLASSY 1980's- you WILL get QUALITY with a Whitthall and Shon- they were meant to LAST. Class personified.

A 40's tilt topper, sits HIGH on the head, and often has a back- band (on the back of the head)~a band that is usually almost an inch wide (covering the back of the head), that you will see in pictures, holding the topper in place OR a black long stretchy/rubber band. A topper does NOT FIT all the way around your head like a fedora, it is meant to be smaller, hence, the headband.  Many sellers, will say: "I am not an expert, in hats" Then, they will have a PERFECTLY displayed picture of a REAL tilt topper, with all of the information... When one sells, it is VERY IMPORTANT, to absolutely tell the TRUTH.  Honesty is rewarded, with Excellent feedback, and a happy seller/buyer.. A seller will wait, for shipping, but will NOT tolerate, something that is NOT TOLD IN TRUTH. Always, when purchasing Vintage hats, look for *MINT* condition~ obviously means (like new) OR VGC.. Very Good Condition.  Beware: If you are wanting to bid on a hat, and it says: "Good for its age" This type of hat, is not really worth purchasing, other than for display purposes.. If that is your intent, then you have a nice display hat. I ONLY buy *MINT* condition Vintage hats, or VGC. I WANT to wear them.

*Jack McConnell Hats... If you love Jack McConnell hats, and you are bidding on one, with a RED FEATHER, it was CUSTOM MADE, BY Jack McConnell, HIMSELF...and worth MORE.  Be advised, that when bidding on ANY Jack hat, you are going to WANT to bid at your MAX, because chances are, you may not win.. Jack hats are HIGHLY desired, and become more rare all the time.  He made ALL different styles, and MANY times, you will NOT find ANOTHER like it. Usually these hats, the real owner had a picture of herself and Jack McConnell.

*Sandra Hats, NY... KNOW that you are bidding on QUALITY.. Next to Jack McConnell, Sandra is the BEST Cocktail style Milliner of Hats.  A *MINT* Sandra is Absolutely STUNNING., and VERY rare.

*Mr John Hats~ ANOTHER GREAT milliner.. Sort of Second Banana to Jack, but I would take it far enough to say, that Mr John, is just as good John JR also.. He used a different type straw, a little heavier than Jack did, The straw that Mr John used, is actually more durable, and can be molded easier, when it is a little bent.. Jacks Straw was finer, thus making it harder to mold. It is ALL in the molding.

Others: Michael Terre, SCHIAPARELLI~ Chapeau!!! (known for shocking PINK!) Michael Terre really did "One of a Kinds" BETMAR, Oleg Cassini, Sally Victor, Sandra of NY, SONNI- UNIONS were ALL GREAT!! Really...??? Hats with or without names- it does NOT make a difference- if you like it, and feel that it will look GOOD ON YOU, just bid on it- Names were not a big deal then, and not now either.  BE ADVISED: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BRAND NEW, VINTAGE IS NOT THE PLACE TO LOOK!!! As with ALL Vintage items- you MUST understand that there is WEAR. So, KEEP THIS IN MIND, when bidding!!!! 

*1920's Cloches vs 1960's Cloches.. there is a HUGE difference!!!!! Many people are bidding on a 60's cloche, when they think it is from the 1920's... So, ask seller Questions!! After all, you are wanting an antique with quality! a 60's cloche- is VERY deep "bucketed" style and almost like a bubble.

**LADY CYNTHIA** THESE HATS WILL HIT THE MARKET AT SOME POINT- Lady Cynthia passed on, she was the TOPS at Derby's, and car shows- these hats WILL BE MASSIVELY COLLECTIBLE, BIGTIME., as only so many were made, she WILL go down as one of the GREATEST Milliners EVER to have graced the "hatting" stage- Fare thee Well, Lady Cynthia- you were AWESOME.We KNOW that you are in Heaven with a GORGEOUS HAT ON!!!

*Womens Hats, the Circumference: If it is NOT there, DO NOT BID until you KNOW it is YOUR head size EMAIL the seller ASAP! You may get stuck with a HUGE hat, or a REALLY small hat!!! So, ask: "What is the circumference on the inside of this hat" When you know it is YOUR size, BID AWAY! Vintage hats, that you are really looking for, you WANT it to fit! *** Just an FYI:

  Not all hats, fall into the 1939/1946 era NOR 1946 + era, many hats, displayed even by different sellers, are in the wrong VINTAGE year.. and MANY times, sellers will put their hats in this era, without doing their research.. Hats from 1920-1960 (or so) usually have "Union made" & a good seller will say this.. Cloches are not really "considered" "Art Deco" Art Deco, is a phrase used to sell a specific type of ACTUAL Art, hats did not fall into that category, though it is perfectly OK to use the term.. Glass, Fine Art, Furniture, Bronze, Clocks, and different items that are not clothing, or accessories fell into that category, for a REASON... THE GEOMETRIC SHAPE, clean lines..and often very simple looking merchandise, though, today, Art Deco, holds a hefty weight in the market place.. def: Art decoration = Art Deco.  Art Deco was a time of style that was from 1922/25-1935/38.  Flapper is really a better term, that ladies can associate with. ***It s PERFECTLY OK, to say: STYLE OF THIS ERA... that is NOT misleading.1930's ART DECO hat- notice the 'Frank Lloyd Wright lines- GEOMETRICS.
