VH1's Celeb Reality: A Guide to VH1's Celebrity Reality Shows

With the recent success of reality shows and MTV's recent proof that adding celebrities into the reality mix is a cultural gold-mine - VH1 has created a lineup bill as VH1 Celeb-Reality. VH1's Celeb-Reality lineup basically highlights washed up actors and actresses and places them in bizarre situations and places. From Jose Canseco to Hulk Hogan - VH1 has quickly supplanted the networks with a variety of guilty pleasures that make for surprisingly good (though not high quality) television. Below is your guide to VH1's Celeb-Reality program lineup:

VH1: My Fair Brady

Summary from VH1: "Christopher Knight, known as Peter Brady of the 70s phenomenon, The Brady Bunch, and Adrianne Curry, the first ever crowned, "America's Next Top Model," caught each others eye during VH1's Surreal Life 4. Now, almost a year later, they are in love and living together. Initially, Chris asked Adrianne Curry to move to Los Angeles and live with him until she could get on her feet; get a car, and get an apartment. Now, months later, there's no car, there's no apartment and Chris is starting to wonder if he did the right thing by having Adrianne move in with him."

My Summary: My Fair Brady is plain old bizarre. Neither Christopher Knight or Adrianne Curry have any idea what they want in life, love, relationships, or family. The show is about each person's conflict with him/herself and one another. BUt thats where the fun comes from - watching Knight and Curry try to untagle the emotional mess that they both are. Pretty pathetic individuals that, when combined, make for good TV and a poor relationship.

VH1: Hogan Knows Best

Summary from VH1: "Hulk Hogan's not only the world's most famous wrestler - he's also a very traditional suburban dad who just so happens to live on a 20,000-square-foot estate in Clearwater, Florida. Daughter Brooke (16) wants to be a pop star, and son Nick (14) wants to be a race car driver. As Hulk and his wife Linda watch their kids grow up before their eyes, they're more committed than ever to protecting them from sex, drugs, and the other evils of modern life."

My Summary: Tery Hulk Hogan is a walking conflict: a man who made his fortune on muscles and masculinity, but a strict, over-protecting and emotional father. Its Hogan's over-protective fathering and his wife's (Linda Hogan's) antics that make the show enjoyable. This is not your standard family: too much money, too much attention, and too much of Hulk's protection. The most enjoyable part of the show though is seeing Hulk's insistent attempt to hide his balding... in one episode he takes wife Linda to a romantic dinner. He dresses up in a black suit... and a matching black bandana... and thank god because the site of him without a bandana is enough to make anyone gag.

VH1: Surreal Life 5

My Summary: Surreal Life 5 is the most twisted Surreal Life casting yet - an eclectic mix of personalities and washed up celebrities. The focus shifts continuall from Janice Dickinson to Omarosa and its a battle between who to hate most. Truthfully, I find Omarosa disgusting and so appalling that its tough at times to watch the Surreal Life 5. I keep watching though in the hope that Jose will big up a baseball bat and swing at her head... I would venture to guess that most of America would rejoice and thank Jose.

VH1: Breaking Bunaduce

Summary from VH1: "A compelling, offbeat look inside the numerous issues that exist in the relationship between Danny Bonaduce, his wife, Gretchen, and their two children. For the first time ever in non-scripted television, a series will be told through a combination of couples therapy and reality. The Bonaduces will be guided and challenged by their combative therapist, Dr. Garry Corgiatt. Dr. Garry is their sounding board, sparring partner and hopeful conduit to success. However, with the mountain of issues, demons, quirks and phobias that define the Bonaduce's relationship, Dr. Garry will have his work cut out for him!

After being married for fifteen years - (marrying seven hours into their first date,) Danny and Gretchen's story continues to teeter. They have survived addiction, infidelity, celebrity, Danny's "death wish" antics and a myriad of other issues - some relatable to an audience - some merely fascinating from a "train wreck" point of view. Somehow, these two demented soul mates have found one another, and one honestly gets the feeling that without each other they could not survive."

My Summary: Of VH1's shows, Breaking Bonaduce is easily the darkest and most disturbing... Between scenes of adultery, steriods, drinking, violence, etc - its amazing to think that Danny Bonaduce is still in the cultural limelight and has a fan base. Frankly, I find him disgusting and, while I find the other shows devilishly delighful, I find Bonaduce simply devilish.
