This is a guide to show people how to utilize music gear from Pawn Shops and resell it on Ebay.
One of my favorite things to do is to go to Local Pawn shops and search for drum equipment to sell on ebay.
A lot of times, Pawn Shops will take in items from people that are either desperate for money, or people who have come to terms with the fact that the pawn shop is not going to give them what there item is worth, but they take the money anyways. If the item is not picked up within the time frame given, it will be sold.
This is your chance to profit.....
Pawn Shops always want to double there profit on what they sell, but did u know most of the time they have no idea the actual value of what they are dealing with? Due this fact items may be underpriced. Sounds crazy but its true....
I can't tell u how many times I've expierienced this..
For example, I purchased just recently a bass drum pedal made by a VERY popular drum company that would sell for $115.00 on ebay all day......the Pawn Shop wanted $25.00 for it, I talked them down to $20.00, took it home and sold it on ebay for $115.00! That's a $95.00 profit, and someone got a NICE pedal for a lot less than at their local Retail Store.
Haggleing/Negotiating price is also part of "Pawn Shopping."
Don't settle for what the ticket price is. Almost all reputable shops will knock at least 10-15% off there ticket price.
Useful tips:
1. Do your research on what you are buying. I use an internet capable Cell phone for quick product look-up, This way u can talk them down even lower. Ebay is your best place for price comparison.
2. Rare items are great, but if there's no market for it, How are you gonna sell it?
Sell only what you know. Don't go on a limb and just buy b/c you've seen one before. Again, Use the internet for research.
3. Use your common sense. If the item is slightly used, shows wear and tear, but you see selling potential, use this as ammunition to get a better price.
4. Often, before someone pawns an item, they fail to clean it up before they take it in to be pawned. This "depriciates" the value of the item thru the pawn shops eyes, also giving you room to negotiate price. Most items can be easily cleaned and replinished as "like new" condition. A little dust or dirt should not keep you from purchasing an item.
Don't be scared to point out any blemish you may see.
These rules apply to all musical gear. I just happen to be a drummer. So go out, buy some gear this way, and see how much fun buying from pawn shops can be!
