I'm a a firm believer in the idea of educating children at every opportunity possible.  Sometimes we have to sneak the education in with the fun stuff, whether it is through books or children's parties. Before the children's party begins, set up an "expedition table" of sorts. Obviously, the best time to throw an expedition children's party would be on a nice sunny day, when you can take the kid's on a nature walk. If you live in town you may have to stage this pre-party in the backyard or have the party at the local  park.

The expedition table can be made up of leaves from various different types of trees, gem stones, a grasshopper in a jar, different types of flowers and things like that. For older kids who can read, you can print out  short bursts of information and educational facts from the internet, including them in the children's loot bags. No matter what theme you decide on for the children's party, make it fun and be creative. You can certainly incorporate store-bought party favors you purchase online, but make sure you add your own special touch to give the children attending the party a memorable time they will talk about in years to come.
