As a Shipper, if you use UShip you MUST verify ALL information shown on a Carrier/Transportation Service Provider's (TSP) PRIOR to accepting their bid.
All you really need to remember is that if your shipment is going to cross state lines, the Carrier must have an ACTIVE Motor Carrier (MC) number. You verify that all information on their profile and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) matches 100%! If they don't have an "MC" shown on their profile then chances are that they don't have one.
If the shipment is staying within state lines and the Carrier is homebased withing that same state where the transport is being conducted they Normally need a U.S DOT number and state issued DOT number. Contact your state's DOT office for assistance in checking out your prospective carrier. You can locate contact information for your state's DOT office by a simple internet search.
The FMCSA and state DOT offices usually have toll free numbers.
If need be, you can access StopIllegalTrucking DOT com and recieve free and timely assistance in checking out your prospective carriers.
