There are a lot of options when buying, selling, and just in general on eBay. The Preference area has tons of options that can make your experince on eBay a great one.


You can find the preference area located under your My eBay. On the left hand side under "My Account". It is the third one down.


The Preference area is seperated in sections. You have: Notification Preference, Selling Preferences, Member-to-Member Communication Prefernece, and General Preferences. Each of these are great to explore and can help better your experince on eBay.


Located in this area you will find:

•  Notification Delivery - This area shows what email address you are using on eBay, Preferred format for emails, if you want SMS alerts, and Instant messages. 
  
•  Buying Notifications - This is were you would want to go if you wish eBay to email you for any of the following: Watched item ending reminder, Watched item daily list, Watched item emails for relisted items, Bid confirmation, Outbid, Winning buyer, Non-winning bidder, Second Chance Offer, Personalized New Item Updates, and Daily buying status.
• Selling Notifications - This is were you would go if you want eBay to email you about the following: Saved draft reminder, Listing confirmation, Sold item, Unsold item, Buyer checkout, Selling account invoices, and Daily selling status.
•  Other Transactions and Notifications - If you wish eBay to email you about Feedback reminders and Feedback removal alerts.
•  Newsletters, Promotions and Event Notifications - This area you can picked to be emailed about: eBay product surveys, Newsletters, promotions, and event notifications, eBay direct mail, and Telephone updates.
•  Legal and Policy Notifications - This gives you the options to pick to be emailed when eBay changes the user agreement and privacy policy.
  

This is a great area to know if you are selling on eBay. This area is loaded with special things that can make your selling on eBay more exciting. This area you will be able to find and use the following:

• Sell Your Item form and listings - This area you will be able to pick picture service and also be able to choose if you want a listing preview and you can pick if you want to show product ratings on your listings, if available.
•  Payment from buyers - This is were you go to pick how you want your buyer to check out and how they can pay you. You will find the following options under this area:Use checkout, Offer PayPal on my listings, Display "PayPal Preferred" on my listings, Display PayPal Buyer Credit financing options, Include my items when buyers pay all their sellers at once using PayPal, Allow buyers to edit payment totals, Use sales tax table and Use this payment address.
•  Enable Checkout through your ProStores Web store - Checkout Redirect to ProStores is available.
• Shipping and discounts - Offer shipping discounts on combined purchases and Offer this UPS shipping rate.
• Buyer requirements - This area you can pick who bids on your items. You can pick to block buyers who fall under: Buyers who are registered in countries to which you don't ship to, Block buyers who have a feedback score of ( -1, -2, or -3) or lower, Block buyers who have received 2 Unpaid Item strikes in the last 30 days, Block buyers who are currently winning or have bought (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 25, 50, 75, or 100) with the side option of: Only apply this block to buyers who have a feedback score of (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) or lower, and Block buyers who don't have a PayPal account.
• eBay Express - You can pick if you are opted in or out of eBay Express here.
• Ask seller a question - Customize what is displayed on the Ask a Question page which includes: Show the item specifics from my listing, Show my frequently asked questions, and Show questions posted on each listing.
  

Some extra tips for this area. There are two things I didn't mention (Logos and branding and Promoting Similar Items on eBay Pages and Emails). I didn't mention them because they mention them in the Preference area but to do anything with them you have to go to a different page.

Under Ask seller a question there is a new feature that is really neat and fun which is "Show my frequently asked questions". This is were you can write questions that people ask you a lot and have a general answer to. This can save time for both you and your customer.

Under Buyer Requirements you have the option on who to block from bidding on your item. There is a Bidder Blocker List but that is for a different time (BBL is used when you want to block a certain person from bidding). Under this area you will find a log that you can see who has tried to bidded on your item but failed because they didn't meet your requirements. It is called the Buyer Requirements Activity Log.


I personally don't know much about Skype so I can't be much help here. But under this area is were you can add your Primary Skype name. That is all that is really under this Preference area.


This is another great area to know. You will find the following under this Preference area:

• Searching and buying - Show my recently viewed items and searches.
  
• My eBay - Display this My eBay view first (this has a long list you can pick from including selling, buying, my summary, etc), Show time in My eBay in this format (pick from Time Left or End time/date), Display Help content in My eBay, Show Personalized Picks, Show my Favorite Searches on the home page search area, and Show Suggested Favorite Sellers.
• Reviews & Guides - you can pick here if you want to hide your helpfulness icon or not.
• Third-party authorizations - There is a list of authorized third parties here. You can go in and pick to Revoke the authorization of any of the parties if you want.
• Other general preferences - Keep me signed in on this computer and Show User IDs with email addresses.
