Traffic is key to a successful auction - with out it, you can have the best products for sale in the world and you won't realize the true value of the auction sale. In other guides, I've discussed using key words and category placement to maximize search traffic - but what about getting the most from the people that are already coming to your auction.
Cross promotion ( the boxes at the bottom of your auction listing ) are excellent tools to drive traffic to your NETWORK of auction listings. For example, our webstore, Digital Media Websites offers several turn key, buy now items that are only listed as store inventory. Typically though, we try to have at least one large feature auction of a major site such as our recent auction for our movie classic television website. This auction generated about 1300 visitors to the specific auction, but it also then generated another 1800 page views of my store items. In total, using this formula to cross promote my items, my store in December generated over 10,000 page total product page views - that's a lot of eyeballs looking at products I have for sale. Because I sell high end sites, it doesn't take much to generate a big sale and that is all free traffic to my subsiduary products from my main auctions.
The other attractive feature of using cross promotion is that if you have say two or three active auctions, you can list them in seperate categories which gives you a much wider coverage ratio for searches on individual products. Remember that searches on any search engine are not always logical, and the more terms and categories you cover the better. For example, I might list one website under the categories ecommerce sites and websites other. I then might list another site under home business websites. My goal here is to promote as much traffic to each auction, as well as make the most of every person that comes to my site so that they see my other auctions. You can learn more about auction promotion techniques in my other guides here on ebay.
