DVD Movies are not the same FORMAT as DATA DVD's & CD's, we use for our computers...meaning that even an older computer drive will play a Store bought Movie because Movies are formated a certain way but the DVD's you and I can buy are not the same...there are 2 different types (+) and (-) whether they are Re-Writable or not...
A Standard DVD holds 4.7GB and out of that you get to use 4.3GB...
Movies we buy are not the same...they are mostly Double Density Capacity, which are 8.5GB's in size, hence that is how they can put all the Extra Features on one DVD...and the main thing to understand that Movies are a Standard.

A STANDARD is something that all the manufactures got together and said this is the way we will all make our movies and that will play on all DVD Players...
DVD-R's make for a better choice when making Movie DVD's from your computer to be played on DVD Players and DVD+R's are better suited for DATA Storage...

When a computer can't read items and are spastic it's because the drive simply can't keep up with the speed needed to load the buffers and the DOS (Disc Operating System) will try several times before giving up and that is why you hear the drive spinning out and not doing anything before reporting there is an error...
If your screen locks up and the computer freezes, don't panic...it's just that the system pointer can't return to Windows and everything comes a sudden stop...simply eject the disc and your Desktop should return.
If not - hold the On/Off Button for 3 seconds and then re-boot.
Most folks think they have to get a new computer but really there are only a few things that may be needed to get it up to date...

DVD 16X Drives are only 50-60 bucks at Walmart and of course eBay, and RAM Memory and actual Hard Drive sizes - are the only real things that need updated to have a better computer...LOL!!!!
The CPU Speed is set in stone and as long as you have a computer purchased - NEW, within the last 4-5 years you can still get by with a small investment and that is why I am writing this, to help you decide if you are having these issues and whether you need a new computer or just a little face lift! 8)
This is a common problem with DATA DVD's and the same holds true for CD's too tho...

As a producer of CD Products I can tell you personally - I have helped so many of my customers with this...
I can burn a CD at 52X but I only burn at 24X because a CD-ROM drive that can only read 24-48X still would not be able to read that disc...
I burn DATA DVD's at 8X even tho I can burn at 16X because I try to make sure older machines can read them but older machines that where built around 4X Rom Drives will never be able to read them...and it really wouldn't take much to get in the main stream of things by simply installing a Newer Drive.
It is frustrating indeed, I know but that's just the way it works...!!!

And by simply updating a 256MB Ram System to 512MB would be a big difference in speed and program attributes, faster web surfing and much more...
DVD's are a great way to storage lots and lots of DATA...photos, programs, music and literally anything that you want to save...
So I hope this has helped with some basic questions about DATA Storage!?
Have a Great Day,
