Acid-free chalk is a wonderful product to add a touch of color to your pages. My favorite is a set of decorating chalks from Craf-T. The chalk set will come with six different colors, plus two foam-tipped applicators. Here’s how to use it:

Apply craft chalk to your paper with either the foam-tipped applicators, cotton swabs or your fingertips. After applying, shake off any excess, then place a clean piece of white paper over the chalked area. Rub with your fingers over the paper that’s against the chalk to burnish it and blot out any excess. Remove the white paper. The blotting may be enough to keep the chalk in place. Because I apply chalk very lightly, I don’t usually feel the need to do anything more to set the chalk. However, if you want to use a spray fixative, Blair Spray Fixative (available at craft stores) can be sprayed over the chalked area to seal it. Don’t use hairspray as a fixative—it’s definitely not acid-free and will harm your pages over time!
