FOR THE LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!

This guide is being writen to help those who are confused with the Error Coins in this years first issue of the Presidential Dollars.

Actually there is only 1 confirmed error as of todays date, 3/8/07. I spoke with someone at the U.S. Mint today on the phone and they have clarified that the current error that the mint is admiting to is the Blank Rim Error. Several of these errors are already appearing on eBay, we have some ourselves. The error on these coins is on the rim of the coin where the date, mint mark, and In God We Trust is supposed to be. There is no writing at all on the error coins, they are blank rims. There have been errors found on both the Philadelphia and Denver Mint issues.

These errors are being reported primarily from Florida where most of these errors have been found. As of todays date prices are ranging from $50 to over $700 for these. Who knows what they will end at!

A big misconception on the error coins is the upside down writing on some of the coins. These are not errors! I repeat these are not errors. The mint has stated these are varietys.  Usually about 50% of every roll has these varietys as this is the way the coins go into the machine is basicly how they turn out. It has been broken down to a 50/50 ratio at this point. There is a big difference between errors and varietys. Errors are something that has happened to a coin that should not have (Like the blank rim), varietys are the upside down writing on the rim. So make sure you read the descriptions before bidding.

Varietys are a nice addition and can be valueable in some cases, but your true error coins like the blank rim are the ones that everyone is hunting. In 1982 there were 7 different varietys on the lincoln cent, these did not turn out to be anything huge but they are now available in what is called the variety set, which currently sells for about $10. Not bad if you only bought a couple of penny rolls.

I hope this has helped clear up several misconceptionsabout the Washington dollar. eBay is a great place to play and have fun, lets all try and keep it that way.

Today is 3/13/07 and we are adding an update to this guide. News has surfaced now regarding the new blank rim errors. The rumor is that as many as 40,000+ of these coins may have made it into circulation according to the u.s. mint and the article in coin world this week. They are also advising people to beware when purchasing one of these error coins unless you pull it from a roll yourself.  It appears that some crafty people have figured a way to shave and smooth the rims of these coins making them appear to be errors. According to the graders at PCGS the only way to tell if you have a fake is to weigh the coin. By them shaving these edges and making the coins appear to be errors it changes the weight of the coin.  For information on what the exact weight of each of these coins should be go to the u.s. mint web sites and click on the presidential dollars icon and there you will find the weight and measurements that each coin should be.

Its a shame that when something like this happens that there always has to be people to take advantage of a good thing and turn it sour. Also for those of you that are wondering where the release of the errors took place. The U.S. Mint has stated that the state of Florida was the primary location for these errors to be and that there were also some of the error coins shipped to Chicago Federal Reserve as well.   At the time of this update these are the two primary locations of these errors. thanks hope this update helped.

UPDATE 7/15/07: Well the newest addition to the series is the Adams dollar and just as predicted the upside down lettering is a variety as thought to be. There is now the A-Variety which is the lettering rightside up and the B-Variety whcih is the lettering upside down. rightside up means that the obverse (heads) of the coin is facing up. I want to repeat as we get at least 10 emails a week regarding this tht these are not errors in no way shape or form. We have also received and have listed now on our ebay pages the new Presidential Dollar Proof Sets and these are really beautiful coins as expected. With the new 2007 Proof sets due out soon they will also have a different look as now their will be (3) airtites of coins in each proof set, You will now have your regular issue coins, state quarters, & presidential dollars. Also plan to pay more for these as well, with the newest addition of the dollars you can expect the mint to be charging more, well thats it for now we will always keep this updated as info becomes available thanks.

UPDATE 7/3/08: By now you all know the change that is forth coming on the Presidential dollars. The motto "In God We Trust" will be moved to either the obverse or reverse of the coin starting in 2009. What will happen to the value of the first two years is yet to be determined however i believe the values will increase as time goes on. Please note that the year and mint mark will remain on the edge of the coins. Also don't be mislead by some sellers trying to sell what they call errors on these coins. If the error is not achknowledged by NGC or one of the top 4 grading companys then it is not an error. Good Luck!

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY COLLECTING!
