Unmounted Rubber Stamps can save you a ton of money! They are at least half the cost of wood-mounted stamps. When you buy them on eBay you'll find that the shipping costs are minimal because they weigh so little. And woo-hooo! Have you noticed how little space they take up in your craft room???
The things to watch for when buying unmounted rubber stamps on eBay:
- How reputable is the seller? Do they know their business? What is their rating? What companies do they sell from? I've been in the internet rubber stamp business since 1995 (with a short break for family reasons). My rating is around 600. I try VERY hard to make sure every customer is pleased with their transaction.
- What company is the stamp from? This may take experience from what you've purchased. Some companies have inconsistent, ridged rubber with barely any depth to their image. I happen to know that Rubbernecker has consistently good stamps. They are thick red rubber with deeply etched lines. That is why I carry them, almost exclusively. They make you happy; they make me happy.
- Does the seller offer an array of mounting supplies? Just using the stamp alone, while feasible, is not the best use of your stamping time. I carry red cushion without glue that you may attach with good old fashioned rubber cement to wood. Of course, I carry gray rubber that has stickum on both sides which makes it very easy to apply to wood. But the best mounting system by far, is HALOS, which of course I also carry. This is a generic Velcro (tm). The clear acrylic block has recessed hooked tape in it. You apply the thickly looped tape to your stamp. Now you can see exactly where you want to stamp. The loop tape creates a nice thick pad and you can now reuse the clear mounting block with a myriad of stamps.
- How are the stamps offered? I sell stamps either by the sheet or singly. A sheet of rubber stamps is an 8" x 10" piece of rubber with anywhere from 4 to 88 stamps per sheet, depending on the size of the stamp. I also sell individual stamps and sets.
