I have recently finished up a very interesting study on Unicorns & their place in history. For the most part people think of Unicorns as wonderful, albeit fictional creatures who were championed in Greek Mythology. What most don't realize though is that Greek writers who specialized in natural history so long ago where quiet convinced through their writings of Unicorns existence in reality. They had had many explorations into India and lots of feedback that made its way to Greece was that Unicorns actually existed in that beautiful land.
During Medieval times historians and writers drew much of their knowledge of Unicorns from Biblical and ancient sources. Both Pagan and Catholic writings seemed to have mentionings of Unicorns and one horned, horse-like creatures during the Medieval period. It is interesting how mostly now people associate those who believe in such 'magical' creatures with paganism when if you follow the history back it was just as much a Christian idea as a pagan one.
Norwegians in the 16th century were said to have had a historian & explorer who actually confirmed the existence of Unicorns in his travels. Even Leonardo Di Vinci himself wrote of the beauty & lore surrounding the mystical Unicorn.
Often now people think of Unicorns as overly quaint or a 'silly' notion. Much as most think of magic, but what people don't realize is that if history & folklore is followed back to a certain point usually the two collide. Making the world we live in now look like much more magical of a place, which I for one think is a positive thing in a world of so much negativity.
