This is a quick guide to help you understand how ricepaddyco and most motorcycle sellers measure their mirrors to tell you what size they will be.
There are typically 5 measurements provided:
- Stem Length:
- This is the length of the mirror stem from the bottom to the top, taken along the shortest route. This gives the total distance the mirror will sit away from the mount when it is on the motorcycle. In the case of adjustable-height mirrors, the measurement given is the maximum.
- Stem Rise:
- This is the amount that the mirror stem rises above the handlebars. It is measured from the bottom of the stem to the point at which the mirror mounts to the stem, at a direct 90 degree angle from the handlebars. This gives the total height above the handlebars the mirror will stand when it is on the motorcycle. Again, in the case of adjustable mirrors, the measurement given is the maximum.
- Stem Run:
- The stem run is the distance between the mirror stem handlebar mount and where the mirror stem meets the mirror, along a direct line from the mirror mount on the handlebars. This provides the total distance out to one side that the mirror will sit once it's mounted on a motorcycle. With adjustable mirrors, the measurement given is the maximum.
- Mirror Face Width:
- The width of the mirror face (reflective surface) that is usable. The measurement is taken from the midpoint of the mirror's height.
- Mirror Face Height
- The height of the mirror face (reflective surface) that is usable. The measurement is taken from the midpoint of the mirror's width.
