Understanding Sizes and Amount When Buying Mineral Makeup

When you begin using mineral makeup one of the most confusing things is all the different sifter jar sizes and the corresponding amount of product that fits in them. If you are buying brand name, such as Bare Escentuals, the amount it what is on the factory made label. However, when buying other Private Label Brands, it can get more confusing. After weighing and selling my own minerals I decided to write this guide is to help you gain a better understanding of what your buying and what you are getting.

Jar Sizes and Corresponding Amounts

Please keep in mind that when you are buying mineral makeup the jar size DOES NOT mean the amount that will be in  the jar, it simply refers to the jars volume. For example, a 5 gram jar does not contain 5 grams of minerals. Also, minerals vary in weight slightly due to the ingredients, so all weights are approximate.

• 5 gram jars with a sifter hold appx 1.5 - 2 grams of minerals
• 10 gram jars with a sifter hold appx 3 - 3.5 grams of minerals
• 30 grams jars with a sifter hold appx 8 - 10 grams of minerals

Teaspoons and Grams

• 1/2 tsp is appx 1 gram
• 1/4th tsp is appc .5 grams

How Long Does This Last?

• 9 grams of foundation will last appx 6-12 months, even with daily use
• 1.5 - 3 grams of eye shadow, blush, or bronzer will last appx 6-12 months
• 1/4th tsp of foundation will last about a month, 1/8th should last about 2 weeks
• 1/8th tsp of eye shadow, blush or bronzer should last about a month
