'
From Fresh Water', by the late Stan Rogers, spins stories of the Great Lakes, almost all written by Rogers himself. 'White Squall' and 'The Midland' are perfect examples of this. Like the late Harry Chapin, Rogers tells individual stories in his songs: 'Flying', about a burnt-out hockey player teaching kids in the Junior League while trying to survive on his commission; 'Tiny Fish For Japan', about Canadian fishermen slowly being put out of business by the big international trawlers, and 'MacDonnell on the Heights', about Canada's version of Ethan Allen.
Rogers was tragically killed in an Air Canada crash in 1983, snuffing out his flame before he hit the big time.
