Aromatic Red Cedar is a wonderful gift from the earth. It has the smells and aromas of long ago childhood memories. Holidays at Grandmother's house. Hidden treasures in dusty old boxes hidden way in her attic. Always the scent of cedar was there and the scent blended into the stuff that weaves the dreams of magical times gone by. Somehow even when the table was piled high with mountains of food, the aroma of cedar still found a way to drift into the back corners of your mind.
How were we to know back then that cedar also had a job to do? Protecting warm woolen blankets and sweaters. Chasing away the musty smell of old houses and even warning the small critters to find another place to build their nests. So it is today that you can revisit those times and add a healthy bonus in the process.
Fill a dozen little drawstring bags with finely ground aromatic red cedar and tuck them here and there around your home. One in each closet, and others in the clothes hampers. Under the dog's bed is a good place for one. Snuggle one down in the vacuum behind the bag for an added bonus when you clean. Add some silk flowers on some of the pouches and put one in each bathroom where they will become part of the decor and fill the room with healthy scents with each steamy shower. Don't forget the linen closet.
Do you have a bridal shower coming up? Why not make up a set of 6 to 8 of the cedar pouches for the bride. Embellish them in any number of ways from plain to fancy. Line a box with cream tissue and tie the box up with a simple bow of reddish brown grosgrain ribbon. How perfectly lovely.
Using our gift basket idea, this would certainly make a beautiful presentation in a wooden basket, wouldn't it? Take time to enjoy the Ahhhhhs.... :)
