This guide will be your one-stop guide to everything Wii! From games to tips and tricks this is the place to find info on this instant-classic system.
-----------------------------------------The Console----------------------------------------
With it's sleek and sexy, glossy white design, it's hard not to fall in love with the Nintendo Wii when you first see it on the shelf. With an MSRP of $250, it's hard to pass up, right?
First, here is some technical information on the console...
-- It's measurements are about 1.75" wide, 6.25" tall, and 8.5" deep.
-- It plays all gamecube game discs, as well as accepts the same memory cards and controllers too.
-- "Broadway" Processor clocked at 729mhz
-- 512mb built-in memory with an expansion slot for SD memory cards.
-- 480i video output
-- Component, Composite, or S-Video output.
-- 802.11 b/g wireless built-in
-- 4 Wii controllers wireless through bluetooth, or 4 gamecube controllers, wired.
-- WiiConnect24 wireless capability for low-power operation.
Well that's it for technical specifications, but what does all this mean for the gaming capabilities of the system? For a small example, the WiiConnect24 option has the capability to hold a low-power internet connection 24 hours a day, which would mean that your friends could one day be able to leave you messages on your Wii or even in your games when you're not home! The controllers themselves enter an entirely new generation of gaming. To have the 3 dimensional movement of your controller and to have it be accurate is leaps and bounds above any innovation we've seen in years in the video game industry. Getting all of this for the low low price, plus the included game, Wii Sports, and a world of online content? You'd be hurting yourself if you didn't buy one this week.
------------------------------------------THE GAMES-------------------------------------------------------
Whatever genre you need, Wii has at least one great game for you. Full reviews of all these games can be found in my individual game reviews in My Ebay World.
-- ACTION
"Zelda: The Twighlight Princess". Hands-down one of the best action games to grace a system.
When the Wii came out, nearly every Wii sold was purchased with a copy of this game.
Including an incredibly in-depth story and super-tight controls, including full Wii-mote swordplay.
The violence is mild in this game and I would suggest it as a "Must-buy" for any age or demographic.
-- PLATFORMER
"Super Paper Mario". If you've played the first two games in this series than you know what i'm referring
to when I say "the best platforming games slash RPG's" What seperates this paper mario from the rest
is the addition of Wii-mote style controls, PLUS a third dimension. So now there is a completely new
"depth" to the series ^_^ A great game for any age.
-- PARTY GAMES
"Mario Party 8". "WarioWare: Smooth Moves". I had to make this category plural because there are SO many
good party games for this system. Mario Party 8 is the best game for the Wii to play with more than one
person. Getting 2 or 4 people together will ensure a night of laughs and fun in the company of mario and
friends. Warioware on the other hand is a great game to play even by yourself, but still offers lots of
multi-player challenges too.
-- HORROR/SUSPENSE
"Resident Evil 4". This game could also be categorized as one of the best action games also. Having been
originally released for the gamecube, and eventually the Ps2, Resident Evil 4 has only gotten better. The
Wii-mote controls not only the aim of your gun in this game, but also the direction you are looking. It's
easy to find yourself frantically whipping around, looking for where a sound is coming from. Truly an
amazing use of the Wii's capability.
-- PUZZLE
"Kororinpa: Marble Madness". Hands-down my favorite use of the Wii control yet. You play as a little
marble, and the wii mote rotates the floor that you're rolling on. The levels range from easy to incredibly
difficult as the terrain and dexterity recquired take the concept of having a steady hand and concentration
to a new level. Imagine it as kind of like playing "Operation", but much much more fun.
The future of games for the Wii are as exciting, if not MORE exciting than the great games that are already out on the market. Here's a brief list of games that you SHOULD be excited to see on the Wii very soon.
-- Metroid Prime 3
-- Mario Galaxy
-- Animal Crossing Wii
-- Bomberman Wii
-- Super Smash Brothers Brawl
-----------------------------------------ONLINE CONTENT-------------------------------------------------
Without online content, next-gen systems are left in the dust. Microsoft offers Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, on their online arcade, which is enough to make me want to go out and buy a 360, JUST FOR THAT! But the Wii offers enough online content to anyone happy from today, to far into the future.
-- Wii Weather
Probably the most unexpected of the online options on the Wii is its capability to give you an accurate
weather forecast, in a cute, appealing visual format. Using the Wii-mote it is possible to look at
ever-changing weather around the world, without getting off your much loved couch.
-- Virtual Console
My favorite part of the Wii online world is some of the games that they offer for download at low prices.
Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Splatterhouse, and Bomberman are just a few of the many games offered over
the Virtual console. Even without buying a single game disc for the Wii, there's plenty of content to keep
gamers happy online.
-- Mii Parades
Alright, it's not that revolutionary, but it's a cute idea. A Mii is a character that you create to
represent yourself in the online world of Wii. Sometimes it can be fun to just get together and parade
around with a bunch of strangers in your twisted little online world.
-----------------------------------------------FINAL VERDICTS---------------------------------------------------
