I am writing this guide to help anyone interested in linux and especially Ubuntu. First Ubuntu is FREE as in beer there is no need to buy Ubuntu on Ebay. the developers of Ubuntu do not charge for Ubuntu and you can download an ISO from them for free. You can also visit Caniocal's website and they will ship you an official Ubuntu CD for free as in beer.
there is also another great website called distrowatch that keeps track of linux and offers linux news. this website has links to companies that specialize in shipping out linux cds and dvds. they do this to promote linux, not to make money like Ebay sellers. they can ship any major linux distribution to you for what some sellers here are charging for the shipping. this is only for people that think downloading an ISO and burning it to a cd is not in their skillset. Or who are in a third world country and still on dial up or some other slow connection that prevents rapid downloading.
Linux is meant to be free, there are very few distributions that charge any money. the ones that charge are usually specialized for business or internet providers.
