US Domestic Postal Rates, 1872-1993
Postal historians deserve an organized, well presented, and readable book about their hobby. This is such a book. Each of the 48 chapters is about a rate service of the US. Many covers are illustrated to denote the authors’ points. The chapter about first class airmail is of course long, but there is even a chapter called fourth-class, material for planting.
The second half of the book is full of grids to display the rates. Dates of initial changes are plotted along the top and types, weight, or destination of postal items are plotted along the left column. The 229 pages are glossy and all is contained in a soft-bound cover. This is an excellent book for the postal historian who collects rate covers. It is very thorough and yet still readable.
