If you own a cellular phone that is locked, please listen up!!
I have seen many sellers on Ebay that offer an "unlock" service for your cellphone for a small fee. This is ridiculous!! Yes, they will give you the code, however, you can get the code yourself for free!! Let me tell you how:
Take my phone, for example. I had a older Nokia model that I needed to unlock. It was from a period in time that I had Cingular, and now I have T-mobile. I had just recently broke my Sidekick 2, and needed a replacement phone ASAP to put my SIM card in.
So I went to Yahoo, and typed in:
Nokia Free Calculator
Up pops several returns. I used the version listed on Download.com, because I know it is a trusted site. You are going to have to do a small download to use the calculator, but you can uninstall it right after if you wish.
Here is that website in case you have a Nokia:
http://www.download.com/NokiaFree-Unlock-Codes-Calculator/3000-2641_4-10500223.html
Anyways, once you have downloaded the software, it will tell you how to find the unlock code. You'll have to enter in your phone brand (like Nokia), the model (like 6021), and usualy the company of which it was locked to (such as in my case Cingular). Also the IMEI code, you can find this on the back of your phone underneath the battery, or by pressing *#06# into your phone.
Sometimes it will give you several codes, but use the code that starts with a seven. I say this because you only have 5 chances to enter the code in correctly before the phone locks down.
Use your * key to get +*PW.
Use your # key to get # (obviously).
So, if the code they give you is something like this:
*PW5246122#
Then you'd hit star a few times to find the P and the W symbol.. get what I'm saying?
Also, with the NOKIA I had to have the SIM card in the phone already to get the code.
Hope this was helpful, please click on yes if it was.
Update: Please do NOT email me asking for help to unlock your code. I do not do this to be mean, but I'm receiving hundreds of emails and I really just don't have the time to do hundreds of replies a day. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. But if you search your phone and the word "unlock code" on Yahoo or Google usually you will find a code relating to your model. Sorry again.
