Call them household hints or yet to be learned trivia, either way these tips are good to know.  You can solve problems while saving money by using common household products in a variety of ways.  Listing is sorted in alphabetical order by product.

CAT LITTER

1. Lingering oil stains in the driveway driving you crazy?  Sprinkle with cat litter, let soak in for several hours. Then scrub with push broom and collect residue

FABRIC SOFTENER SHEET

1. Freshen a trash can or eliminate odors by adding a sheet to bottom each time you change the trash bag.
2. Food stuck to pan?  Fill with water, add one sheet and let soak overnight.
3. Remove pet hair from clothing.  Attracts the loose hairs magically!

PEANUT BUTTER

1. Have you ever struggled with trying to remove chewing gum from your childs hair? OUCH!  It's easy, when you add a huge dollop of creamy peanut butter. Just massage it in, comb out, then shampoo.

2. Bought something new and are eager to use, but are having a heck of a time removing the adhesive left behind by the sales label.  Peanut butter removes it. Just spread PB on, let it sit for a little bit, then rub off.

3. Have to catch a mouse using a mouse trap?  Don't use cheese, it gets hard in no time and just doesn't attract mice like the smell, taste and stickiness of peanut butter

SODA PRODUCTS

1. Greasy clothes to wash?  Add a can of soda (dark, caffinated soda like Coke) to the wash with your normal detergent. Run through wash cycle, it loosens the grease for easier removal.
2. Clean a badly stained coffee cup or tea pitcher by filling with club soda. Let it stand for 20 minutes than rub with towel to remove any lingering stains.

VASELINE

1. Use as makeup remover
2. Cures chapped lips. Apply a dollop to your lips before you go to sleep.  In the morning, you can rub very lightly with your fingertips and excess skin flakes off. 

VINEGAR

1. Clean stainless steel appliance.  Use straight solution, not concentrated

OVEN  CLEANER

1. Use to clean soap scum from bathtub!  Works like another popular bathtub cleaner. - added 10/25/06
   

TOOTH PASTE

1. Clean jewelry to a lustre with a paste style toothpaste, an old discarded toothbrush can be used to apply and scrub.  Rinse under cold water and you're ready to flaunt your jewels! - added 11/05/06
