Recently someone purchased 6 Trade Dollars at a yard sale , and asked if I would take a look at them . I weighed them , and only found one to be within the correct weight limitations . It was an 1874 CC with about six chop marks , and weighed 27.1 grams . The other five ranged in weight from 21.2 grams to 22.3 grams , with out chop marks . I did not have the knowdledge at the time to check the curls and eagles eye , but passed it on to my friend .These were picked up at a yard sale for a substantial premium .The next test is to have a silver test run , and if there is indeed copped underneath , then we'll know . Everyone needs to be aware of these things , so the more information we can get "out there" , the better off we'll all be . I have been collecting 40 yrs . , but this was my first encounter with fake dollars . I have sent graded coins back , because the holder looked tampered with where it was sealed .
