A belt driven turntable is the quietest you can get.  A heavy table is also a must.  Don't go cheap on the stylus /needle or you will defeat the whole purpose.  I have over 35 years of experience with all kinds of "high end" stereo equipment.  If you can find a Thorens, grab it.
