I have found that many people WASTE there money on silly dreams about being a core buyer OR silly refining guides .
First off with todays prices with the 3 P.G.M metals that are in a Catalytic Converter makes a Converter Very Expensive , valuable and a HIGH risk for serious Loss .
Catalytic converters in the last year and a half have nearly doubled in price . Everybody and there mother is a "core" buyer i see them come and go all the time . Jumping in thinking im gonna make a killing running around throwing there price lists everywhere and within a few months no where to be found .
Most Serious Core buyers have atleast 150k+ in funds to buy converters and turn about 3000+ Converters a Month .
There is Serious Risk Involved is it wise to Buy a Large Gm To make 5.00 and spend 155.00 its fine if the market is flat or on an up swing (like it has the last 8 years) but what goes up must come down Its still a risk .
Also to keep in mind that most of catalytic converter buying is a GAME and half the time does not Represent the actual pgm's in the Converter .
Selling Direct to a Refiner is Possible you need around 2000 lbs (Very minimal thats about 740 cats) but after your done with the fee's all the other junk You will find your getting less than your local large core buyer would pay you .
Also alot (not all) of the Core buyers Lie Cheat and Steal to get what they want . Calling Fake halves , mis grading , miss marking ect . Very hard to Compete with someone who is doing this sorta thing .
Selling to Core Brokers is another way to go like Tech a Met , or a-1 Specialized ect . But most of these large Core Brokers / Cutters ect have Set up Core Buyers already and will low ball you OR just send you to there local agent there gonna be making 5-10 dollars off of you and the larger guy is gonna be making 10+ dollars off the smaller core buyer and the refiner is gonna be making another 10-15% off the cutter .
Refining yourself is next to impossible for any small time person you need TONS of cash to dump into operation . Then all the Trial and error on getting your refined pgms down to a science will just about bankrupt a person . You don"t wanna be yeilding 70% pgms and the large refiners doing 95% that ain't gonna make any money . Also after you get it Refined into a Mash of (palladium+platinum+rhodium) you still have to sell it to a Large Refiner There are only a few in the world who can seperate these metals and you need minimal 2kg's to send away (thats gonna cost around 400k atleast). SO unless you got a couple million to waste/spend then it just wont work .
So unless you get the converters for Next to free or cut them yourself OR have a good base to start with core buying (friends who own wreckers or scrap yards) or Just money to Blow(on the learning curb) and time to kill . I would not suggest getting into the core buying market . 90+% of the guys who try fail . Not saying its not possible just sayings highly unlikely .
Last thing to keep in mind you need skill . You cant just jump from a 9-5 job and think your gonna make it with no sorta skill or Business talent you have to know how to read ppl play games ect there is more then just throwing high prices at them all there gonna do is run back to there current buyer and ask if he can pay that and of coarse he will say he can . u just wasted another 10 min of your life .
I have been a core buyer for the last 11 years i got in the game in 1997 . i have bought and sold well over 600,000+ converters . I sell about 2000+ converters a month currently . My profit margin is around 3-5% i only buy from a Few large dealers . Just to give you an idea the Risk involved and money it cost's i spend approx 200k+ a Month to make maybe 10k . I pre sell all my converters to cut down alot of risk .
Im not trying to Throw Cold water on your Ideas Just giving you the facts of what is Involved . I have made my money in this game a long time ago and really could care less if i don't buy any more it cost alot of money there dirty and not to healthy to work around . Just giving you the Truth about The wonderful world of Core Buying .
