Hi, I'm glad you took the time to stop by and read this little bit of information on first editon books of Margaret Mitchells "Gone With the Wind". There are many "first" types of books out there but I wanted my customers to be aware that a true, true first edition of "Gone With the Wind"  was published in May of 1936 by The Macmillan Company. Many people are not aware that only 10,000 copies of the true first were printed. From there you will go into the next most sought after edition which is the June, 1936 copy. To know the actual printed edition you have, go down the list on the copywright page, and you may have an August, September etc. edition. Although it might say 1936, REMEMBER, the TRUE first of first is May 1936. So check through those bargin bins, attics, basements, yard sales, auctions, and church basement sales. An original first edition of "Gone With the Wind" May 1936, will bring a great price to the avid collector of first editions. The color of an original first is what I would call a "dirty brown" without the dust jacket. It is a plain flat color. May 1936 copies are rare, and with a dust jacket, WOW! What a find. (Original dust jacket is yellow, and brown with flag on cover, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to find!)Also, if you have a dust jacket, be sure it is authentic, and not a newer one. Check for a bar code (they didn't use bar codes in 1936). Plus, check to see if the jacket is "price clipped". That means the corner has been cut to not show the original selling price. Unfortunately "price clipped jackets" decrease the value of ANY book that is a first edition. Collectors covet the covers with the original price.  Hope this helps all the "bookworms" and collectors out there, of which I am certainly one myself. Take care, and Fiddle Dee Dee, remember "Tomorrow is ANOTHER day!" God Bless! Mystery Woman Enterprises....
