I won't tell you to not buy a Troy bilt but read my experience and decide for yourself. I purchased the 'New' Troy bilt 4 cycle trimmer 2 years ago with several of the attachments. The trimmer worked adequately enough the first summer. It had enough power if I didn't push it and the convenience of regular gas was great. The next summer things went downhill. Even though I followed the meticulous maintenance procedures, the power unit would not throttle up. It would start just fine, with little or no additional assistance, but the second anyone would touch the throttle, the unit would die. Went immediately to authorized repair center and was informed that the repair would cost nearly as much as a new unit, IF they could fix it at all. They said " Yea, those 4 bangers have been problem from day one." They went on to disclose that they had the exact same unit from another customer in the shop for 4 weeks, doing the same thing. Conferences with the factory reps disclosed that it is a regular problem and the factory reps don't know whats wrong, or if it can be fixed. When I purchased this 4 cycle, I gave my old 2 cycle Echo to my son. I've been borrowing it to do my lawn. I'm taking the serviceman's advice, and buying a good cheap 2 cycle at a discount store.
