Question & Answer on troubleshooting INTERMITTENT LINES ON AN LCD SCREEN:
I am trying to determine if replacing my LCD screen for my notebook is in order. The majority of time, my lcd display works just fine. There are times however when the screen goes off and there are just a few vertical red and green vertical lines showing. When this occurs if I just lightly tap on the back of the screen the display returns to its normal state. It may be hours before this re-occurs. I don't want to spent >$200 to replace the screen if that isn't going to fix the problem,. Any ideas/suggestions?

This symptom could be one of 3 things - but my bet is that it's the VIDEO CABLE. You will have to remove the screen from the plastic housing ( we have directions on techexcess.net, at the bottom of the page- see LCD REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS) - and flip the screen down- see the ribbon cable on the back - it's flat ( DO NOT BEND IT - it's your data cable for the lcd) - take it out gently, and slide it back in, making sure it's properly seated. It may be that the cable has come loose, and just needs to be reseated. If the problem continues, and this is the difficult part - it Could be you need a new video cable OR a new screen. If the video cable is bent or folded, or has come loose & just worn even one of the small cables inside breaks - it's not going to send the info properly, and can result in lines, etc. However, the lines, etc could mean the lcd is failing as well. It's difficult to say which one it is, until you get a replacement of one or the other part to troubleshoot with. The cable sends data, if corrupt can make the same issues as when the lcd goes bad (hence not receiving the information properly & showing the same symptoms). The last thing that may make the screen go BLANK is the inverter... your issue doesn't sound like the inverter, which supplies power - however if the power inverter is failing, it can create all sorts of havoc like fading, blinking of the screen, and even lines or white or all black - because the lcd isn't getting the correct power. In your case, my bet is the video cable or the LCD. If you order a video cable from a vendor, make sure they have a return policy you can live with if it doesn't solve your issue, then send it back. That's my advice. I hope this helps!
