Let's not date this experience, but at one time in my life, I took a travel-study course for 3 hours credit towards a Masters' Degree in Textiles; the course included traveling for two weeks throughout Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland and writing a research paper regarding the Textiles Industries in the Scandinavian countries. First, was coming up with the funds, which my wonderful parents generously provided; next was the passport ( now one probably needs to consider that way in advance).
The day before the flight, I had the opportunity to go sky-diving, but I passed (the thought of traveling around on crutches seemed cruel and would ruin the trip). I did make all my flights under the supervision for our Professor. Our group was of about 20, me being the youngest at 21, with all different backgrounds and reasons for going. Our tour guide was like a female Hitler with the European accent to fit; she had everything perfectly scheduled and we were never a minute late. We visited the major cities, did the tourist attractions and traveled the countryside by chartered bus. The food was okay, but it was part of the package; I ate Reindeer in Norway...I learned to appreciate the flavor/buzz of a warm dark beer at the Tivolia in Denmark... Swedish chocolate factory impressed upon me that anything in moderation is all right for you (ie. chocolate, full of several vitamins)...in Finland, I made the fatal mistake of sending out my laundry (I had to borrow money)...the accommodations, on the whole, were comfortable mostly in smaller inns...in our spare time we shopped and explored in many historic areas. It was a very fun experience and I highly recommend anyone that has the desire, to consider looking into a travel-study with an accredited institution of higher learning. Traveling with a familiar group is a safer way to go, than going off by oneself. By the way, I did do the research, got an "A" and the 3 hours credit!
