Down and dirty, simple idea:

Use a Cascade 2 in 1 Action Pack dishwasher detergent container from a warehouse club such as Costco or Sam's Club as the perfect trash container for your craft worktable. It's big enough to hold a fair bit of rubbish, but not so big that it gets in the way. It has an attached snap shut lid so if you knock it over things don't end up all over your table, and keeps kid's hands out of the mess.

Sometimes simple is good!
